The carnival atmosphere capped off a historic and unforgettable campaign for the local side, 3K Football Club, which secured promotion a couple of years after their improbable promotion to the NSL.

The Embu-based outfit is one of two teams to secure automatic promotion to the elite National Super League tier, finishing as runners-up to the eventual National Super League (NSL) champions, Migori Youth FC.
With regional peers like Murang’a Seal already cementing their place as top-flight mainstays, 3K FC’s historic ascent underlines the explosive growth of football as both a recreational anchor and a major sporting force in the larger Mount Kenya region.
In a fitting finale to a dream season that culminated in their maiden promotion to the FKF Premier League, the club’s passionate fanbase turned up in droves.
They created an electric, bouncing atmosphere inside the packed venue for the highly anticipated heavyweight clash against the newly crowned champions.
Area governor Cecily Mbarire and George Ruto, son of President William Ruto, were among the high-profile dignitaries gracing the VIP stands to witness the spectacular showdown between the two newly promoted sides.
On the pitch, the match lived up to its billing. Kendrick Kipkirui sent the home crowd into a frenzy, firing 3K FC into a well-deserved lead heading into the halftime break. However, a spirited second-half response from Migori Youth saw Collins Otieno score a brilliant equaliser, ensuring the top-of-the-table encounter ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
The final whistle sparked widespread celebrations across both sets of fans. While the home team celebrated their historic leap to the premier league, Migori Youth joined the party on foreign soil, proudly reminding their opponents of their status as the absolute NSL champions.
Speaking after the thrilling encounter, an emotional 3K FC head coach, Nicodemus Omasete, offered a nostalgic reflection on their miraculous push for top-flight status. He acknowledged how unlikely their target seemed mid-season, when the side massively trailed their peers, sitting a daunting 12 points adrift of the promotion places at the halfway mark.
“We sat down and calculated. We realized the maximum points the top teams in the table could realistically attain were 85. The tactical plan was simple: whenever we faced any team above us, we had to aggressively take points away from them. We started winning our games, the belief grew, and here we are,” a proud Omasete told the club’s media site.

Meanwhile, following the conclusion of the season’s final match, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed officially presided over the trophy presentation, crowning the resilient Migori Youth squad for their historic championship run.
The resurgence of community clubs could have come full circle with Mombasa United, under the tutelage of Peter Okidi, finishing third in the league.
The Mombasa Club’s fate remains dependent on the outcome of a court case filed by Kariobangi Sharks over the relegation playoff criteria.
