KPL: Miheso bullish Sofapaka will survive looming relegation

By , February 22, 2026

Sofapaka captain Clifton Miheso has expressed confidence that his side will survive the looming relegation from the challenging Football Kenya Federation Premier to the National Super League at the end of the current campaign.

Speaking in a local radio interview on Saturday, February 21, 2026, Miheso, who joined Batoto ba Mungu from Police FC in the January transfer window, reflected on the side’s poor performance for the better part of the season.

Rough ride

Sofapaka suffered their fifth consecutive league defeat on Friday, February 20, 2026, to Kakamega Homeboyz at Bukhungu Stadium, who are still mourning the loss of their reliable defender Silas Abung’ana. The Nairobi-based outfit surrendered to Homeboyz 2-0, a defeat that Miheso linked to collective mistakes, adding that he got mad at his players.

”I got mad when we conceded within the first three minutes, the dressing room was heated at half-time. As a captain, I had to revive the morale of the team, but what was that?’ Miheso posed.

Sofaka, who are rooted at the bottom of the FKF Premier League table with 14 points in 21 outings, fired their head coach, Ezekiel Akwana, recently over dismal performance, before hiring experienced Abdallah Juma, who is also having it rough with the club.

However, despite the challenges at the Elly Kalekwa-owned club, Miheso is optimistic the team will survive the chop, after they found themselves in a similar situation last season.

”We are not getting relegated, of course, the reality is that we are down there, but we still have 13 matches to go, and it is a process,” Miheso said.

”There are confidence issues in the squad, sorting out these issues is a process, but in these 13 games, we are surviving,” Miheso said.

Coming fixtures

In their next four matches, the 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions will face struggling and defending champions, Kenya Police FC, Mara Sugar, Nairobi United, and Bidco United.

”The good thing is that we have already played against the top-performing teams, and we are now going to face the sides that are also in a similar situation as we are. I have played against all those clubs, honestly speaking, no side pinned us down, we lost because of our own mistakes.” He added.

The club is facing numerous challenges, among them financial setbacks.
