Kenyan defender Amos Wanjala signs for Spanish side Valencia CF
By William Muthama, January 25, 2026Spanish side Valencia CF has officially confirmed the signing of Kenyan defender Amos Wanjala.
In a statement on its website on Sunday, December 25, 2026, the club announced that Wanjala would join the VCF Mestalla squad, Valencia’s reserve team.
“Valencia CF has reached an agreement to incorporate Amos Wanjala into the VCF Mestalla squad,” the club announced.
From Kenya to Spain
Amos Emmanuel Wanjala is a central defender who joins the VCF Academy from Athletic Club Torrellano, where he gained experience competing in Spain’s Tercera Federación.
He was also part of the Valencian regional selection that participated in the UEFA Regions’ Cup.
Valencia described Wanjala as a highly rated young defender with valuable experience in both domestic and international competitions.

“Amos Emmanuel Wanjala, 19, is a central defender who arrives at the VCF Academy from Athletic Club Torrellano, where he has accumulated experience in the Third Federation, becoming part of the Valencian National Team that has participated in the UEFA Regions Cup,” the club said.
Wanjala first gained recognition while playing for St. Antony’s Boys Kitale, helping the team win the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national title.
That achievement earned him a scholarship to Nastic Sports Academy in Tarragona, Spain, before he moved to Athletic Club Torrellano.
International Experience
The new Valencia recruit is already a full international with Kenya and captained the nation’s Under-20 side at the most recent Africa Cup of Nations for that age group.
The club emphasised his leadership and defensive qualities, highlighting that he brings both technical skills and international exposure to the VCF Mestalla squad.
Wanjala becomes the third Kenyan international to move clubs during the January 2026 transfer window, following Austin Odhiambo’s transfer from Gor Mahia to Nejmeh SC and Manzur Okwaro’s move from Nairobi United to Stade Reims. His move continues the trend of talented young Kenyans seeking opportunities in Europe.
Valencia confirmed that Wanjala’s signing is VCF Mestalla’s first acquisition in the 2026 winter transfer window.
