Amos Wanjala’s stint with the Valencia youth team kicked off in style as the Kenya U20 captain earned his debut for the Mestalla-based club days after switching clubs in Spain.

Wanjala’s league debut came on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in a cameo appearance during a 1:0 win against Alcoyano in a Segunda Federación game.

The defender came on in the second half after the side had been reduced to 10 men following a red card, helping them seal the game.

The victory helped Valencia B side climb the log to tenth with 27 points, marking their second win in the last six games.

Wanjala, who has been in the books of Athletic Club Torellano, made his switch to Valencia in January 2026.

The appearance marked an important career milestone for the budding defender.

AFCON U20

Born in Mombasa, the former St. Anthony’s Kitale Boys alumnus made an eye-catching performance for Kenya U20’s Junior Stars side in the 2025 African Cup of Nations Championship (AFCON) in Egypt.

Following his move to Valencia, Wanjala opened up that his immediate target was making the most out of the switch and improving his profile.

“I am very happy to be here at Valencia CF. It is a great club with a great history. The Valencia CF Academy is a great academy. It is a great opportunity for me and I want to make the most of it and achieve more success with Valencia CF,”he said.

He also recently spoke of mulling prospects of featuring for the Kenyan national team during the upcoming 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly held by Kenya and its East African neighbours Uganda and Tanzania.

“If I get the chance to be called up, it will be a dream come true, if at all I make it among the ones who get called up,” he stated.

He dismissed assertions that his age could bar him from making it to the final squad, saying that every player believes in representing his country in front of his family and friends.

Ready for it

“Age is no factor; as a player you always believe that one day you will have such an opportunity. If I get it I will be ready; if I do not get it, as I always say, country first. Those who get the opportunity will hopefully represent us and do a good job,” he added.
