He dismissed assertions that his age could bar him from making it to the final squad, saying that every player believes in representing his country in front of his family and friends.

Ready for it

“Age is no factor; as a player you always believe that one day you will have such an opportunity. If I get it I will be ready; if I do not get it, as I always say, country first. Those who get the opportunity will hopefully represent us and do a good job,” he added.

Overall, Wanjala exuded optimism that the coming of the continental championship to East Africa for the very first time will bring with it massive opportunities in terms of exposing the talents of Kenyan footballers abroad.

“It will be a good thing. It will change a lot of things, and hopefully, it will help other players get noticed out there. For me, it’s a positive thing for our country, our league, and the competition,” he stated.

Wanjala,. started his career with St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Solidarity Boys before making a switch to Spain’s Nastic Academy. He later marked a major move, joining the Athletics Club, Torrellano, in the same country.

His big breakthrough came in 2026 when the Valencia CF reserves team came calling for his signature and services.
