Kenya Police slow Gor Mahia down as FKF PL title run-in intensifies
By Luke Oluoch, May 10, 2026Gor Mahia FC spared their blushes in a late push for the Football Kenya Federation Premier League title, securing a 1-1 draw against Kenya Police FC at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Substitute Ebenezer Assifuah stepped up to snatch a crucial point for the league leaders, who found proceedings tough against a resilient police side before breaking their resistance late on. Brian Chonjo had sent the law enforcers in front in the first half.
The draw leaves K’Ogalo in command at the helm with 65 points, followed by rivals AFC Leopards, who moved to 58 points after beating Mara Sugar on Saturday.
Fred Ambani’s side, however, still has four games left to conclude their season in comparison to their title-chasing rivals’ three.

Gor now needs only two wins to wrap up the title race, provided that Leopards, their sole remaining challengers, maintain a perfect streak in their final four fixtures.
The clash played out largely as predicted, with Eric Zakayo proving influential for Police, while Jackson Dwang acted as the primary creative spark for the opposition.
Chonjo’s first
Police drew the first blood from Brian Otieno Chonjo, who calmly stabbed home from Yves Koutiama’s pass following a free kick just outside the area from Eric Zakayo.
Gor’s recent struggles in front of goal continued, with Ebenezer Adukwaw and Samuel Kapen tasked with leading the line.
Adukwaw thought he had pulled Gor level from a powerful header but was denied by Ogembo just before half-time.
Gor struggles
Despite this stark statistic, coach Charles Akonnor trusted his instincts, electing to bring on the in-form Assifuah past the hour mark.
The final half resumed with Daniel Ogembo, FC Police keeper, picking a caution for time-wasting antics.
The turning point
Assifuah, who has been one of the finest midseason signings, initially struggled to orchestrate a fightback against Nicholas Muyoti’s well-drilled defense.
Meanwhile, Adukwaw, who started the campaign brightly before a recent dip in form, was also hauled off for Patrick Essombe as Gor upped the ante to no avail.
However, the game’s turning point arrived with just six minutes to play.
Assifuah did what he does best, controlling from a cross that was not cleared to fire home and sending the Green Army fans into an uncontained frenzy.
With Police just minutes from becoming potential party poopers in Gor’s title march, the title race remains a two-horse sprint between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia heading to the next rounds of fixtures.
