Ingwe land Sofapaka striker Andrew Waswa in late transfer swoop

AFC Leopards have pulled off a late transfer window coup, snapping up promising striker Andrew Waswa from FKF PL rivals, Sofapaka.

The 21-year-old forward, hailed as one of the most exciting young talents in the FKF Premier League, has sealed the switch to Ingwe just before the registration deadline, handing the club a timely attacking boost ahead of the crucial second phase of the season.

With his stock rapidly rising following his eye catching performance at Batoto ba Mungu, Fred Ambani’s charges moved fast to rope in the budding talent.

Transfer approach

Ambani had previously opened up on the need to inject more firepower in the team’s final third, where consistency has proved elusive.

Speaking on January 8, 2026, the trainer stated that the title-chasing club will not be actively involved in the transfer window, terming the development a deliberate approach from the club.

“We will have one or two players in. We do not expect to exceed that number. We believe the team is on the right track. Normally, when you bring in new faces, it kind of destablises the team, and you have to start working again afresh with the new players,” he stated.

The arrival of Waswa offers fresh competition in attack and gives Ambani more tactical options, with the youngster capable of playing as a central striker or drifting wide.

Leopards were among the active recruiters at the start of the season, roping in more than seven players in a preseason shopping spree.

Among the club’s signings were former Sharks man and Police FC midfielder Tyson Otieno and left central defender Rami Lasso Coulibaly from Morocco’s Chabab Alam Tanger.

Others were Ugandan Samuel Ssenyonjo, striker Elias Mugane, and Deng Kang, who was promoted from the juniors team, AFC Leopards Cubs.

The club has maintained a competitive edge and is currently ranked second on the log, trailing leader Gor Mahia by four points.

The club will next face Bandari FC in their next league clash after visiting BB Bread in the Shield Cup round 64 tie this Sunday, February 8, 2026, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.
