Harambee Stars’ Zech Obiero’s goal voted the best of March in England’s League Two
Harambee Stars and Tranmere Rovers midfielder Zech Obiero has bagged the League Two Goal of the Month accolade for March 2026.
Obiero’s stunning curler against Oldham Athletics on March 7, 2026, received the majority of votes to see the Kenyan beat off competition from Fleetwood Town’s Mark Helm, Newport County’s Bobby Kamwa, and Crewe Alexandra’s Reece Hutchinson.
Stunning strike
The attacker received a pass and was potentially running down a blind alley toward the corner flag as he collected it. In an instant, he halted his run, swivelled, and sent a delightful curler into the far corner.
The attacker conveyed his elation after a panel of experts and a public vote overwhelmingly selected his strike.
“Thank you to all the Tranmere fans who voted for me to win this award; it means a lot. It’s been a tough few months for us, but we’re fully focused on doing what we need to do in the last four games to keep the club in the division.”
TV Pundit Don Goodman, a Goal of the Month judge, also praised the technical execution of the goal
“There was so much to like about Zech Obiero’s goal against Oldham. Shaped as if he were running away from the goal, a smart Cruyff turn bought him a yard, and the curling finish into the top corner was sublime,” he said.
The goal came days after Obiero marked his Harambee Stars senior debut during the FIFA Series games in Rwanda in March 2026.

In only his debut, the attacker was a standout performer, grabbing an assist and a goal in the two games as Benni McCarthy’s team secured a podium finish.
Obiero marked his arrival at the national team with a stunning assist to Ryan Ogam despite Harambee Stars losing 5-4 to Estonia in their FIFA Series opener on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Dream come true
He continued the run with a goal in the thrashing of Grenada on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Speaking about his debut with the national team, Obiero described donning the national team colours as his boyhood dream.
”It is a dream come true, I have always wanted to play for Kenya since I was a little boy, it is a proud moment; I thank God for the opportunity, and hopefully, many more to come,” Obiero noted.
