Harambee Stars prospect Wilson Waweru seals move to English side Wealdstone FC

Harambee Stars prospect Wilson Waweru has joined English National League side Wealdstone FC on a permanent deal from Irish club Cobh Ramblers.
Wealdstone, who ply their trade in the fifth tier—the highest tier of non-league football in England—confirmed the signing on Friday, August 14, 2026.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Wilson Waweru, who joins on a permanent deal,” the club statement read.
“The striker has spent most of his career in the League of Ireland, including a spell in the Premier Division with Sligo Rovers, where he scored nine times in 44 league appearances,” a profile of the new arrival added.
Waweru has spent the entirety of his career in the Irish league, where he first made a name for himself with Galway United. He joined the club’s youth academy before being promoted to the senior team, debuting at the age of 17 and helping the side finish as runners-up in the league.
The 23-year-old, who can play as a striker or a winger, took the league by storm and was named among its most promising prospects.
He moved to Sligo Rovers in the winter of 2023 after impressing while on loan at First Division side Cobh Ramblers. His standout moment with Sligo came in July 2024, when he bagged the Player of the Month award after scoring five goals in a single month, including a hat-trick.
He later rejoined Cobh Ramblers permanently in December 2025 following a battle with injuries. He departs Cobh having scored seven times across 22 appearances in 2026 and registering 22 goals in 58 total appearances for the club.
The move sees Waweru link up with fellow Harambee Stars forward Micah Obiero at Wealdstone, joining a squad featuring another attacker who recently earned his national team call-up and made his Harambee Stars debut during the FIFA Series competition in Rwanda, in march 2026.
Waweru, who was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 2000, is eligible to represent Kenya through his parents.
