Kenyan defender Zak Vyner was a late substitute for championship side Wrexham’s 2-1 win over Portsmouth during an English Championship clash on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

The clash marked Vyner’s second appearance for the team he joined as a January 2026 transfer arrival from Bristol City.

The Harambee Stars defender made his debut for the club on Sunday, February 22, 2026, in a win over rivals Ipswich Town, coming on as a substitute.

Goals from Sam Smith and Max Cleworth sent Phil Parkinson’s team to a well-deserved lead going into the break, and the hosts never looked back to claim their points.

The ambitious and fast-rising club are chasing their fourth successive promotion, with a coveted spot in the English top tier in sight.

With 12 matches remaining, they currently sit in sixth position, holding onto a playoff spot as the race heats up.

The club’s promotion quest heads to Charlton Athletic on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in a clash that will see the Kenyan pair face off against Collins Sichenje, who also joined the Addicks in January 2026.

The foregoing comes after Sichenje also earned his second appearance as Charlton secured an important 1-1 draw away to West Bromwich Albion.

Sichenje was introduced in the 35th minute as Charlton battled to earn a valuable point on the road. The clash also marked back-to-back appearances for Charlton since his arrival in London in January.

The Kenyan defender continues to gain minutes at a crucial stage of the season, having made his league debut on English soil in the away trip to Southampton on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Meanwhile, Thomas Silko Otieno’s Leicester City picked up crucial points against promotion-chasing Middlesbrough on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Vyner agreed to a long-term contract at Wrexham on Sunday, February 1, 2026, ending a 20-year association with Bristol City to become the latest entrant to the promotion-chasing championship team.

He has agreed to a long-term contract that will keep him at the Red Dragons until the end of the 2028/29 season, with an option for an additional year.
