Wrexham coach Parkinson hails signing of Harambee Stars defender Zak Vyner
English Championship side Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson has hailed the addition of Kenyan and Harambee Stars defender Zak Vyner to the club.
Vyer made the switch to Wrexham on Sunday, February 1, 2026, ending a 20-year association with Bristol City to become the latest entrant to the promotion-chasing championship team.
Wrexham sit sixth in the Championship with 47 points, occupying the final play-off spot following a year of remarkable success where the club attained back-to-back promotions from lower tiers of the English league
Departure
“We can confirm that Zak Vyner has completed a permanent move to Wrexham for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to a 20-year association with #BristolCity,” Bristol stated on Vyner’s departure.
Following the move, the Harambee Stars defender is set to add depth to the club’s quest for a maiden promotion to the English Premier League (EPL), with coach Parkinson expressing his elation with the signing.
“We are delighted to welcome Zak Vyner to the club. He is an experienced championship player, and we are looking forward to working with him,” he stated.
He has agreed to a long-term contract with the Red Dragons that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2028/29 season, with an option for an additional year.

At his new destination, he has a tough task in filling the void left by former EPL and Wolves skipper, Connor Coady, who left the club at the start of the year.
Known as Zachary George Onyego Vyner, or Zak Vyner in short, the defender was born in Peckham, London, and joined Bristol City at the age of ten.
Harambee Stars call-up
The centre back is eligible to represent Kenya through his mother and received his first call-up to the Harambee Stars back in 2025 during the World Cup qualifiers.
He originally played as a winger before moving into the heart of defence during his time in the academy. He can also feature in an unorthodox midfield role where he has excelled while with Bristol.
At the age of just 19, Vyner made his first-team debut for the Robins during the 2015/16 season before embarking on his first senior loan move in professional football with Accrington Stanley.
On the international front, Vyner was part of the Harambee Stars’ squad that played against Burundi and the Ivory Coast back on June 2, 2024.
