Gor Mahia’s winning run faces test as Mathare look to exploit their mistakes
Mathare United’s ace Kevin Ouru has revealed that the team aims to correct the mistakes made against Shabana FC previously as John Kamau’s men seek to bounce back against leaders Gor Mahia in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Nyayo Stadium.
Touching on the heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Shabana in their previous league outing, Ouru has admitted that the disappointments against the Glamour Boys are behind the team as they seek to make amends against K’Ogalo on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The tightly contested match appeared headed for a goalless draw before Shabana’s George Onyango struck in the 90+8th minute, breaking Mathare United hearts and handing the Glamour Boys a crucial away win on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
”I have forgotten that one, like the coach normally says, our tomorrow is defined by today, not yesterday,” he said, affirming the preparedness at the Nairobi-based outfit ahead of Saturday’s clash.
Rectifying mistakes
”Our preparation for Gor Mahia’s game is to rectify the mistakes we committed in our previous fixture. We are going to approach the match tactically. Looking at both teams, mistakes will be punished, and if we minimise the errors, we will not be punished,” he added.
Touching on the aspect of the advantage that comes with having resting time between matches, Ouru said the Slum Boys are in an advantageous position because of having been on the pitch more recently, than Gor Mahia, who last played last weekend.
”I do not think they have an advantage; it is us. We played recently, within 48 hours, we have another game, it means that things that happened the other day are still fresh in our minds, unlike Gor, who played last weekend,” he said.

Gor Mahia’s impressive run
However, buoyed by a commanding 3–0 victory over KCB, K’Ogalo heads into the clash looking to complete a flawless February after winning all three matches played this month.
Historically, encounters between Gor Mahia and Mathare United have often been closely contested, but recent form tilts the balance. Gor Mahia have won the last four meetings, scoring 10 goals and conceding just twice.
Overall, the clubs have met 44 times in league competition, with Gor Mahia registering 18 wins, 14 draws, and 12 losses, scoring 55 goals and conceding 39.
