Why Martin Zubimendi is attracting suitors, with Arsenal valuing him at over Ksh13B

Arsenal have reportedly placed a substantial valuation on Martin Zubimendi amid growing interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea, with the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes potentially altering the Spanish midfielder’s position in Mikel Arteta’s plans.
Zubimendi only moved to the Emirates last summer, but the Gunners’ latest midfield addition has raised questions about his long-term role under Arteta.
Guimaraes adds another dimension to Arsenal midfield
Arteta has strengthened his squad significantly during the summer transfer window, completing a reported £75 million (Ksh13.13 billion) move for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian midfielder is Arsenal’s third major acquisition of the summer, following the arrivals of winger Christos Tzolis and goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Guimaraes, 28, has made it clear that he believes Arsenal can provide the platform for him to achieve further success in his career.
“It’s massive what I have done so far, but I want more. I want to win for Arsenal. I want to win more trophies in my career, and I think I’m in the right place, at my peak at 28 years old. I’m so excited to join.”
His arrival, however, could have significant consequences for Zubimendi, whose position as an automatic starter appears less secure.
Arsenal demand £77m (Ksh13.5 billion) for Zubimendi
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Zubimendi’s situation at Arsenal has become increasingly uncertain after Guimaraes’ arrival.
The Gunners are believed to have told interested clubs that they would require at least €90m, approximately £77m, before considering selling the Spain international this summer.
Zubimendi joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad for around £60m last year and initially showed encouraging signs following his move to the Premier League.
However, his performances reportedly became less consistent towards the end of the previous campaign. His reduced influence was highlighted when he was not selected in Arsenal’s starting XI for the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The midfielder’s changing circumstances have now prompted speculation over whether Arsenal could be prepared to part ways with him only a year after his arrival.
Real Madrid and Chelsea interested
Zubimendi’s uncertain position has reportedly attracted attention from two of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Real Madrid are said to be considering another attempt to sign the midfielder after failing to land him previously. The Spanish giants could regard him as a possible alternative after their efforts to recruit Manchester City midfielder Rodri failed.
Chelsea are also reportedly interested, with manager Xabi Alonso said to be particularly keen on bringing Zubimendi to Stamford Bridge.
Alonso knows the midfielder from his time working with Real Sociedad’s reserve side and is reportedly pushing Chelsea’s hierarchy to pursue a deal.
The Blues boss is believed to view Zubimendi as a player capable of fitting into his tactical approach, potentially setting up an intriguing transfer battle between Chelsea and Real Madrid.
With both clubs reportedly monitoring the situation, Arsenal could find themselves in a strong negotiating position if a bidding contest develops for the midfielder.
