Gor Mahia provide update on team preparations after postponement of Mara Sugar clash
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League leaders Gor Mahia have provided an important team update following the cancellation of their Sunday, May 24, 2026, league clash against Mara Sugar.
The title hopefuls have confirmed that the team will remain in Homa Bay to prepare for the penultimate league encounter, even as uncertainty over its final hosting place continues.
Remain in Homa Bay
“We will remain in Homa Bay and continue training as usual while awaiting further direction from the Federation regarding our pending match,” Gor said on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
In a statement on Saturday, May 23, 2026, following the ruling by the Sports Disputes Tribunal to postpone the clash, K’Ogalo confirmed that they would abide by the ruling pending further direction from the federation.
Gor had travelled to and pitched camp in Nyanza County on Friday, May 22, 2026, and kicked off their preparations at the Raila Odinga Stadium.

This development follows days of confusion and a back-and-forth about where to host the clash. The highly anticipated match was initially slated for the Awendo Green Stadium, the host team’s home turf.
However, complaints from Gor Mahia regarding the venue’s safety and capacity to host the high-profile tie initially prompted a change to Wang’uru Stadium.
Mara Sugar then filed an urgent application against the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), challenging the directive to stage the match at the Raila Odinga Stadium instead of their preferred alternative venue, Wang’uru International Stadium in Kirinyaga.
The tribunal certified the matter as urgent and ordered the suspension of the fixture.
FKF PL tense title race
K’Ogalo are just one win away from wrapping up the league title, sitting four points clear of their title rivals. Leopards.
Charles Akonnor’s charges will move to 71 points with a victory, securing a record-extending 22nd league title if they take maximum points against the Francis Xavier-coached Mara Sugar.
