Drama as SDT calls off highly-anticipated Mara Sugar vs Gor Mahia clash
The future of the upcoming FKF Premier League clash pitting Mara Sugar against Gor Mahia on Sunday, May 24, 2026, hangs in the balance after the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) issued orders stopping the fixture, pending the hearing and determination of an appeal.
The host club, Mara Sugar, confirmed the development this Friday, May 22, 2026, just two days ahead of the scheduled kickoff on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
According to the club, the SDT made the decision following an appeal filed against the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Leagues and Competitions Committee (LCC) over their directive to move the match to the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.
SDT’s verdict
“The Sports Disputes Tribunal has issued orders stopping our home match against Gor Mahia pending the hearing and determination of the appeal. An appeal was filed against the arbitrary decision of the FKF and LCC directing the said match to be played at Raila Odinga Stadium, Homa Bay,” Mara Sugar said in a statement.

The uncertainty over the venue and the actual kickoff date has been compounded by the fact that the matter is set to be mentioned in court on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
The clash was initially set to be staged at the Green Stadium in Awendo, Mara Sugar’s home turf. However, complaints from Gor Mahia regarding the venue’s safety and capacity to host the high-profile tie initially prompted a change to Wanguru Stadium.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Gor Mahia announced that the clash would instead be moved to Homa Bay, sparking the standoff that led to the tribunal’s intervention.

With just two games left in the season, this high-stakes weekend was expected to bring the dramatic race for the league title to a head.
