Gor Mahia hit the road for Kisumu as 2026 Shield campaign gets underway
By Luke Oluoch, February 6, 2026Football Kenya Federation Premier League giants Gor Mahia have embarked on their 2026 FKF Shield Cup campaign with a visit to Kisumu.
According to an update on Friday, February 6, 2026, Gor has opted for travel by road as the angle for their first task against Dero FC in the round of 64 ties of the premier knockout competition.
Road trip
“Road trip to Kisumu. One team, one mission: a win tomorrow in the FKF Cup match at Mamboleo Stadium,” a statement by the club read.
The current edition of the tournament attracted 64 teams, with Gor among the 15 Kenya Premier League teams that entered the race for the 2026 competitions.
As per the draw conducted on Thursday, January 29, 2026, K’Ogalo will begin their title hunt against the Siaya-based FKF Division Two outfit at the Mamboleo Stadium, Kisumu.
The clash will kick off at 3:50 pm and will be curtain-raised by the Amani Youth vs Kakamega Homeboyz encounter at the same venue. The FKF PL and 2023 Shield champions will face off in the first clash against Amani Youth at 1:00 pm, before Gor takes to the pitch.
Charles Akonnor’s charges lost out in the 2025 honours after losing 2-1 to the eventual winners and holders, Nairobi United.
Meanwhile, Dero United chairman Kevin Oswere is mulling the prospects of upending the record KPL champions in the delicate cup tie.
Speaking on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Oswere said his lowly ranked team will fancy the chance to upset the 2025 finalist.
Giant-slayers
“We are concentrating on slaying the giant. It will be a huge match pitting a huge giant against a small one. We want to concentrate on the assignment and delivering this tie. Our approach will be one game at a time,” he stated.
Other notable clashes of the round 64 ties are Fred Ambani’s AFC Leopards, who will be away to BB Bread at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.
Ingwe was pitted against the FKF Nairobi East Regional League side in the draw.
The tie will be preceded by a mouthwatering fixture pitting Nairobi fans’ favourite club, the Githurai All-Stars, against former winners, Bandari FC, at 1:00 pm.
