Ahead of the 3:00 pm local time kick-off, the Harambee Stars defender has revealed that Charles Akonnor’s men have prepared well for the Derby, where bragging rights are up for grabs in the capital, especially after Ingwe stunned K’Ogalo 1-0 in the reverse fixture at the same venue.

Preparation
”We are prepared as a team, we know what is ahead of us, how important the game is..so we believe we are ready for the game and we look forward to turn things around and to win this second leg. It will be very important for us and our fans, who really deserve it,” Kibwage told the media on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Captains speak
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards skipper Victor Omune has emphasised the significance of the upcoming Mashemeji Derby, noting that it comes with much at stake.
Speaking ahead of the Sunday, April 26, 2026, meeting, Omune reckoned that their eyes are on their season targets, with a win against Gor coming in handy in getting the job done.

The two sides are separated by three points at the summit of the league standings. Gor Mahia lead the table with 58 points, while Leopards occupy the second position with 55 points, making the Derby an important duel.
“There is a lot at stake, making this meeting different. We have worked hard as a team to be where we are, and I believe what we have achieved this far is deserved. Mentally, I believe we are ready, and for us, we only have to win as we look to achieve our season targets,” he stated.
On the other hand, Gor Mahia skipper Philemon Otieno has also signalled the importance of protecting K’Ogalo’s bragging rights and pride as the team angles for the game, saying: “As one of the senior-most players on the team, I have to encourage the team. I urge them to protect the bragging rights of our team,” he implored.
