Gor Mahia coach Charles Akonnor has described K’Ogalo’s next league assignment against Shabana as an important encounter for this title-chasing team.

Speaking on Friday, March 20, 2026, Akonnor admitted that they will have to summon their best game to get a result against the third-placed side.

“It is a very important match. We will have to do our best to keep our levels and momentum that we have been maintaining in previous matches. We are looking forward to making sure we get a positive point,” he stated.

Focused

Shabana will have to do without coach Peter Okidi following his departure from the club earlier in the week after a spate of back-to-back losses.

The Ghanaian has, however, downplayed his absence, stressing that they will be focusing on their game and not the happenings in the rivals’ camp.

“Unfortunately, their coach is no more there, but we are focused on ourselves and what we want to do. We have watched them one or two times,” he added.

After a draw against Posta Rangers and elimination from the FKF Cup against BB Bread, Gor recalibrated its league chase with a victory that has left Akonnor upbeat ahead of the Shabana test.

“We responded well from the last match after what happened two weeks ago, which is good,” he posited.

Akonnor also gave a sneak peek on the team news for the blockbuster clash, stressing that the starting berths remain wide open for players who impress ahead of the clash.

Everyone is good to go; apart from Silvestere, everybody is good to go. We look forward to the session and seeing who can start and those who are available; as it stands now, one can guarantee a position,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia has urged fans to turn up for the clash, assuring fans of security measures in place ahead of the blockbuster encounter. In a statement on Friday, March 20, 2026, Club Secretary General Nick Arum dispelled fears of the tie turning chaotic as witnessed in recent clashes pitting hugely followed FKF PL teams.

“We want to assure all fans that necessary security measures have been put in place to guarantee safety before, during, and after the match. You are free to come and enjoy the game in a secure environment. Fans buying tickets are advised to use designated gates and take up designated places to avoid unnecessary alterations,” the record champions added.

The clash kicks off at 4:00 pm.
