Gor Mahia and BB Bread vow to cancel each other out in FKF Cup encounter

By , February 20, 2026

Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC have vowed to end BB Bread’s fairy tale run in the 2026 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup competition.

Gor Mahia drew the FKF Nairobi East Regional League Zone A leaders, BB Bread, who were the surprise package after eliminating AFC Leopards in the preliminary stages.

Speaking after the conclusion of the competition draw on Friday, Gor’s administration manager. Ronald Ngala said the club was determined to reclaim its lost glory in the knockout cup after last season’s humiliation in the finals.

Going for the Cup

“There is no small team in this tournament. You play your opponents as an equal and give the games the seriousness they need. We thought we would carry it last year but missed it; this year we are going full throttle—we must carry the trophy,” he posited.

The round of 32 draw was conducted with Football Kenya Premier League sides learning of their next opponents in the premier cup knockout competition.

The high-flying Kayole-based club stunned Leopards with two early goals before a rejuvenated Fred Ambani’s lads clawed their way back into the game and forced it to a lottery of penalties.

Leopards’ luck, however, ran out in the post-match shootouts on a 4-3 upset.

On his part, a BB Bread FC administrator, William Gitonga, admitted that the competition poses a major challenge for lower-tier sides who have to pit their wits against top opposition.

He, however, maintained that they will be looking to add Gor Mahia to the sword and extend their giant-slaying run in the round of 32 when they come up against the 2025 finalists.

“Teams coming from the lower tiers have faced challenges as we cannot adequately compete with top-tier opposition. We are confident the team will show its competitive edge and pull another surprise and continue in the next stages of the competition,” he stated.

The Round of 32 will be played on the weekend of Saturday, March 7 and 8.
