FKF PL: Shabana’s title push faces crucial hurdle in trip to Mathare

Shabana FC’s bold push for the FKF Premier League title is set to face a stern test as the Glamour Boys visit Mathare United this Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Nyayo National Stadium.

The 4:15 pm clash comes at a critical juncture for both sides, who are battling contrasting fortunes at different ends of the log.

Shabana, currently third with 37 points (nine adrift of leaders Gor Mahia and three behind second-placed AFC Leopards), aim to maintain their strong recent form and close the gap on the top two.

Okidi on Shabana’s title chances

Coach Peter Okidi has remained bullish about their title prospects, insisting the team will go all out for the crown as they continue moving from strength to strength with each victory.

Slum Boys stunned Shabana by a solitary goal in the previous league meeting between the two.

Meanwhile, Mathare United sit mid-table and are looking to break into the upper half amid an inconsistent campaign.

Coach John Kamau has been vocal about his side’s biggest concern: consistency. His team has blown hot and cold throughout the season, failing to fully take charge of their league fortunes.

“My biggest concern is consistency. The best thing we can do as a team is get consistent. The challenge to the boys is, can we get two wins in a row, more than worrying about the tune against the Sharks? I know when we play to our strengths and according to plans, we can beat anyone,” Kamau said during preparations for their recent outing against Kariobangi Sharks.

Adding intrigue to the matchup, former Shabana midfielder Daglas Mokaya, the Slum Boys’ midseason arrival from Shabana, will line up against his old club.

Pursuit of points

In an interview with his new club, Mokaya revealed his eagerness to make an impact.

“You always have the motivation to score against your former team. I believe the morale is high, and I believe we will have a good game based on the preparations we have had. Everyone is ready for the clash,” he stated.

A win for Shabana could see them level on points with AFC Leopards and narrow the deficit to league leaders Gor Mahia to six, keeping their title chase firmly alive.

For Mathare, it’s a chance to derail the Glamour Boys and boost their own mid-season revival as they look to reach the top half of the log.
