Liverpool have secured the services of defender Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, with the young Frenchman signing a long-term agreement pending international clearance.

The Premier League giants had already reached an agreement for the transfer earlier this year, and the move is expected to be officially finalised within the next few days.

Jacquet arrives at Anfield after progressing through Rennes’ academy system and breaking into the first team, where he made 33 competitive appearances.

The central defender featured 21 times during the 2025-26 season before his campaign was brought to an early end by a shoulder injury suffered in February.

The 20-year-old, who represents France at under-21 level, also gained valuable first-team experience during an approximately year-long loan spell at Clermont Foot, making 24 appearances.

Now preparing to begin the next chapter of his career at Liverpool, Jacquet shared his excitement with the club.

“I feel really good, the first impressions are good and I am very happy to start here. I am very happy. When I see the facilities, I can see myself there. I feel good here and I am very excited to get started. For me it’s a big dream, it’s a big club. A club like Liverpool, it’s a big dream for me,” he said.

Konate departs Anfield

Jacquet arrives after France defender Ibrahima Konate was unable to say goodbye to Liverpool supporters after confirmation of his exit this summer.

Konate, 27, joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 on a five-year contract and had previously been in talks to extend his stay at Anfield.

However, those discussions came to an end amid a gap between the center-half and the club over his value and wages. Konate made 183 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions and won the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.

The Frenchman thanked fans in a post on his Instagram account for your love, your energy, and your incredible support during his time on Merseyside.

“I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game,” he said.

“At that moment, I didn’t know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you, wrote Konate. Anfield is truly a special place, and playing in front of you was something I never took for granted. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. I love you all and will carry Liverpool with me wherever I go. This is not an easy goodbye, but it’s time for a new challenge and a new chapter.”
