Inter Milan enter race to sign Tottenham and Argentina star Romero

Inter have entered talks with Tottenham over the potential signing of Cristian Romero. The Spurs captain helped Argentina reach a second straight World Cup final this month, but could leave this summer for a significant fee after an eventful five-year spell.
The centre back has made 156 appearances since he joined Tottenham in 2021 and guided the club to Europa League success last year, but served four separate suspensions during a difficult 2025-26 campaign.
Spurs open to Romero’s exit
With Jan Paul van Hecke signed for £52m from Brighton and Marcos Senesi joining as a free agent in June to boost the defensive options of Roberto De Zerbi’s side, Spurs will let Romero depart and his representatives have been in Milan for talks with Inter this weekend.
Inter’s sporting director, Piero Ausilio, told Sky Italy: “It’s definitely a deal we are trying to sign with the player and the club. These things take some time, but there’s definitely interest. Let’s see.”
Inter’s potential deal for Romero comes as European clubs are looking to bolster ranks ahead of the new season.
Michael Olise of France and Yan Diomande of Ivory Coast have become targets for major European clubs as the transfer market gathers pace.
Both Olise and Diomande had impressive showings at the just-concluded FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico. At club level, Diomande was a key figure at the Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, while Olise was also instrumental in Bayern Munich’s impressive run last season.
For English Premier League champions Arsenal, the Gunners have been linked with several high-profile moves taking shape at the Emirates Stadium.
The biggest story over the last days has revolved around Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, who has reportedly become a serious target for the Gunners. Club decision-makers are said to have approved the idea of pursuing the Brazilian if the right opportunity presents itself. The winger, 26, has just one year left on his current Real Madrid contract after contributing 22 goals across all competitions last season.
