Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi has announced his retirement from professional football, closing a career defined by decisive moments on some of the sport’s biggest stages.

In an announcement on his official X account on Monday, June 8, 2026, Origi shared a reflective message that pointed to a sense of completion after years in the game.

“My purpose in the game is fulfilled ⭐️,” he wrote.

“I lived out my childhood dreams, played on the biggest stages, won the biggest trophies. Grateful to God for all of it.”

He added that his journey was built not just on personal achievement, but on shared experiences with those around him.

“To all my fans, the clubs, my teammates and my family: this will forever be ours. Thank you,” Origi said.

The forward, widely remembered for his clutch performances at Liverpool, said he is now ready for a new chapter.

“The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling. More of the journey to come. Love, Divock Origi.”

Career across Europe

Origi rose to global recognition during his time at Liverpool, where he became known for scoring in high-pressure matches.

His most famous contributions came during the club’s 2019 Champions League campaign, including the semi-final comeback against Barcelona and the final victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

He also played for Lille in France, VfL Wolfsburg in Germany, AC Milan in Italy, and had a loan spell at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

His career was marked by moments of impact rather than constant starting roles, earning him a reputation as a reliable option in crucial situations.

Kenyan roots

Origi also has strong Kenyan roots through his father, Mike Origi, a former Kenyan international footballer. The family’s football history is closely tied to Kenyan sport, making Divock one of the most recognised players of Kenyan heritage to feature at an elite European level.

Origi was last on the books of AC Milan before stepping away from professional football. While he did not specify what comes next, his message suggests a transition into a new phase of life beyond the pitch.
