Liverpool part ways with coach Arne Slot
Liverpool FC has confirmed the end of its association with coach Arne Slot just days after the curtains of the 2025/26 season fell.
The Dutch tactician arrived at Anfield at the start of the 2024/25 season, succeeding Jürgen Klopp, and enjoyed a dream start to the Premier League by guiding the Merseyside club to the domestic title, ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City.
Slot endured a torrid spell in his subsequent season, where the Reds finished at a distant fifth behind Aston Villa (fourth) and old rivals Manchester United (third) despite a summer that saw the club sign several big stars such as Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.
The club has confirmed that a process to name his successor is underway.
Departing
“Liverpool FC can confirm Arne Slot is to depart his role as head coach with immediate effect and that the process to appoint a successor is under way. He leaves with a Premier League title to his name and our deepest gratitude and appreciation,” the statement from the club read.
Liverpool on Slot’s tenure
While thanking the gaffer for his work ethic and professionalism during his tenure, the club acknowledged that they felt a need for change was necessary to keep the club going forward.
“We would like to take this opportunity to place on record our appreciation for Arne, who will always hold a special place in the history of this football club as the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title.

“At the same time, we have collectively come to the conclusion that change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward. Again, it must be stressed that this is not a decision which has been reached lightly, anything,” the club said.
Slot’s departure comes a day after defender Ibrahima Konaté also left the club, marking another top star to exit the English Premier League giants after the campaign.
According to reports, the 27-year-old will leave for free after talks about extending his contract failed to bear fruit.
The club has already lost defender Joe Gomez and Andy Robertson, both of whom were to leave after the season, alongside veteran striker Mohammed Salah.
