Enzo Fernandez taunts Chelsea after completing record Ksh21B move to Man City

Enzo Fernández has aimed a slight dig at his former club Chelsea, describing his move to Manchester City as the realisation of a long-held ambition after completing his transfer to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at a record Ksh21.6 billion.
The Argentina midfielder officially left Chelsea on deadline day and has agreed to a contract with City that runs until the summer of 2031.
Fernández, 25, is now looking forward to beginning the next chapter of his career and believes joining one of football’s biggest clubs represents a major personal milestone.
“I’m really happy to be here,” Fernández said in his first interview as a City player on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. “I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a very emotional moment for me and my family, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of.
“I’m so happy to be here, enjoying these first few hours I’ve had at the club. I can already see just how big it is and, we will enjoy ourselves and win lots of things together.”
Fernández targets more silverware
The midfielder said he had little difficulty deciding to accept City’s offer, particularly given the club’s impressive record of success in recent seasons.
Manchester City have collected 20 trophies over the past decade, and Fernández hopes to contribute to another successful period as the club continues its pursuit of major honours.
“Manchester City have to win every trophy they compete for,” he said. “In every competition we play in, we have to compete and win, because this club’s history demands that.
“To be honest, from the first day they believed in me and called me to say they wanted me to join the club, I didn’t hesitate for a second.
“It’s a club that has won a lot in recent years. It’s a club that is making history in football and, for me, it’s a huge challenge.
“To be able to come here, help the club and keep winning things together, that has been my goal since they called me: to come to this club knowing we are going to win many trophies together.”
Excited by City’s new-look squad
The Argentina midfielder arrives at the Etihad during a period of significant squad changes. He joins fellow new arrivals Elliot Anderson, Geronimo Rulli, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Ilian Ndiaye as part of City’s summer recruitment.
Although he has yet to take part in a training session with his new teammates, Fernández has already followed the team from afar and has been impressed by the quality being assembled.
“I saw there have been a lot of new signings, a lot of players have left too,” he added.
“The team we have, the quality we have, you can see it.
“I haven’t had the chance to train yet, but I’ve watched them on TV.
“And honestly, the team City are building this year is incredible, and it makes me really happy that they are going in that direction.”
The former Chelsea midfielder will now turn his attention to settling into his new surroundings and helping Manchester City maintain their status among Europe’s leading clubs.
