Carrick revels in his achievement at Manchester United
Manchester United interim coach Michael Carrick has revelled in his achievements since taking over the club’s reins midseason, following the sacking of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim.
The former midfielder and club legend ranked leading the club back to the UEFA Champions League as a high of his tenure, stressing that the feat meant a lot to him as a supporter of the club.
Carrick has completely turned United’s season around since taking over the hot seat after Ruben Amorim was sacked on January 6, 2026, winning 10 of his first 15 games, steering the Red Devils up to third place.
Clarity on head coach role?
The remarkable run also saw the Englishman secure United’s return to Europe’s elite competition next season after winning 10 of his 14 league games in charge, a mission that was sealed with the outsmarting of Liverpool, 3-1, on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The interim head coach also responded to reports that he could remain Manchester United manager beyond the end of this season after days of admitting that the issue was out of his hands.

Carrick will lead United this weekend as they face Nottingham Forest in what could be his farewell at Old Trafford if he is not preferred for the permanent role.
“I cannot blame you for asking. It is still two games to go, and apart from that there is nothing more that I can say; that is probably what you expect. The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon; we knew that would be toward the end of the season. Nothing has changed, and there is no big swing on that,” he said.
His sentiments come amid a heightened possibility that he will be the man for the role.
The Manchester United hierarchy is preparing to begin negotiations with him over the possibility of handing the tactician the managerial role on a full-time basis after the current campaign.
An update on May 13, 2026, stated that the club is expected to formally engage Carrick before their last Premier League fixture away to Brighton & Hove Albion on May 24, 2026.
The confirmation came days after the Englishman admitted to the public that his future at the club was out of his hands.
