Barcelona have struck an agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of England international Anthony Gordon.

The Spanish giants tabled their bid on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, with the total package understood to be worth £69.3 million (€80m), including performance-related add-ons. Gordon is expected to travel to Barcelona on Thursday for medical examinations before finalising the switch.

The 25-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign for Newcastle, finishing as the club’s leading scorer with 17 goals across all competitions. Despite signing a long-term extension at St James’ Park in October 2024, which still had four years remaining, speculation around his future intensified in recent months.

Gordon did not feature in Newcastle’s final four matches of the season, with the club seemingly managing his involvement ahead of a likely transfer during the summer window.

Earlier reports had linked Bayern Munich with a move for the winger, although Sky Germany indicated the Bundesliga side were not preparing a competing offer. Barcelona have now moved quickly to secure the player ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson had previously acknowledged that the club could need to offload players in order to strengthen the squad during the transfer market.

Rashford’s uncertainty

The move could also have implications for Marcus Rashford’s future at Barcelona. The Manchester United forward, who spent time on loan with the Catalan side, is reportedly keen on staying at the club and may even consider a salary reduction to extend his stay.

Earlier, Rashford explained that he does not know what the future holds as far as his stay at Spanish club Barcelona goes.

Rashford had a mixed career with Hansi Flick’s team, but he remained unsure of whether he would earn a permanent contract and extend his stay in Spain.

The attacker moved to Spain following a six-month spell at Aston Villa last season. “I don’t know; I am not a magician. If I were, I would say,” he said in an interview after the clash.

“I came here to win as many games and trophies as I can, so this is one more to add to this. This is a wonderful team with nice teammates, and to be a part of this in the future would be special, but we will see,” he added.
