Barcelona’s reported move for Anthony Gordon has sparked major debate among fans, especially after comparing his numbers to the club’s current wingers.
While Gordon may not match the attacking output of stars like Lamine Yamal or Raphinha, his profile offers something different for Hansi Flick’s system.

According to the statistics, Gordon registered six goals and two assists in 26 league matches during the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. In comparison, Yamal produced 16 goals and 12 assists in 28 games, while Raphinha managed 13 goals and three assists in 22 appearances. Marcus Rashford, who spent time on Barcelona’s left wing, recorded eight goals and nine assists in 32 matches.
On pure numbers, Gordon trails behind Barcelona’s wide attackers. Yamal has been the standout performer, combining creativity with elite finishing despite his young age. Raphinha remains one of the team’s most direct attacking threats, while Rashford has contributed both goals and assists during his spell in Spain.
However, Barcelona’s interest in Gordon appears to go beyond statistics. Reports suggest the club views him as a perfect tactical fit for Flick’s intense pressing system because of his speed, aggression, and work rate off the ball.
The English winger has also impressed in Europe this season, scoring 10 Champions League goals for Newcastle United while showing his ability to play across multiple attacking positions.

Unlike Yamal, who thrives in one-versus-one situations, or Raphinha, who often cuts inside to create chances, Gordon’s game is built around relentless movement, pressing intensity, and direct runs behind defenders. That style could give Barcelona another dimension in attack, particularly in transition.
Barcelona are reportedly close to completing a deal worth around €70-80 million after beating competition from Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
While some supporters question the price tag due to Gordon’s lower goal contributions compared to Barcelona’s current wingers, others believe his energy and tactical discipline could make him an important addition under Flick. Discussions among fans online have highlighted his pressing ability and versatility as key strengths that Barcelona currently lacks in certain matches.
If the transfer is finalised, Gordon will arrive at Camp Nou knowing comparisons with Yamal, Raphinha, and Rashford are inevitable. But Barcelona may not be signing him to outscore them immediately.
