AFC Leopards Chairman Boniface Ambani has bid farewell to the fallen Kakamega Homeboyz defender Silas Abung’ana ahead of his funeral in Kakamega on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

In his Facebook post on Saturday, Ambani joined the Kakamega Homeboyz family, led by club President Cleophas Shimanyula, in grief.

Ambani mourns Abung’ana

”When the time comes to say bye-bye..it becomes so difficult. Today is your last journey on this planet Earth. Safiri Salama. To Kakamega Homeboys FC, led by Club President Shimanyula, and the entire soccer fraternity, we bid goodbye together to a fallen Hero. Abung’ana Mungu nawe Safari umekamilisha. Rest In Eternal Peace.” Ambani said.

While receiving treatment at the Kakamega County General Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Abungana succumbed to his head injuries inflicted on him by his brother over a domestic brawl.

Abungana passes away

”Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana. The club can confirm that Silas passed away a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday,4 February, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital, after succumbing to head injuries sustained during an attack on Tuesday, 3 February night. During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss. The club will issue further communication in due course. Rest in Peace, Silas,” Homeboyz confirmed the sad news.

Silas Abungana’s final journey began with a procession from Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 3:00 pm to Bukhungu Stadium, shortly after a league match against Sofapaka FC.

At the stadium, supporters, friends, and members of the club were accorded a solemn opportunity to view his body for one hour, and paid their last respects before the cortege proceeded to Muranda. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, an interment procession will be held, after which he will be laid to his final resting place.
