Akonnor warns Gor Mahia against errors ahead of Sharks match

Record Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia will welcome Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2026, in a league encounter scheduled to take place at Kasarani Stadium, with the match set to begin at 3:15 pm.

The current league leaders head into the fixture without a defeat so far this year and are eager to maintain their flawless run against Sharks, having emerged victorious in each of their last five encounters.
Speaking before the match, head coach Charles Akonnor has stressed the importance of careful preparation and concentration. He has noted that the technical bench understands the opponent’s approach to the game and has put strategies in place that they believe will deliver a positive outcome.
“We are fully aware of Sharks’ style of play. We have a plan and we believe it will work in our favour,” he told the club website.
Gor Mahia approach the clash in strong form, having secured four victories and one draw in their previous five games. Kariobangi Sharks, on the other hand, have struggled for consistency, recording only two wins while suffering three defeats over the same period.
Following 25 rounds of matches, K’Ogalo sit comfortably at the summit of the standings with 56 points, while Sharks occupy 15th position with 25 points.
Even with his side enjoying a solid lead at the top, Akonnor has cautioned his players against overconfidence. He pointed out that leading the table brings added expectations, and maintaining their position will require continued hard work, discipline, and focus.
Pressure at the top
Despite the commanding position, Akonnor refuses to be complacent: “Being on top comes with pressure. We must not take anything for granted. We have worked hard to get here, so keeping the momentum and staying committed is key,” he added.
On the squad front, Gor Mahia are monitoring a few injury issues involving Bynne Omondi, Sylvester Owino, and Felix Oluoch. However, the coach confirmed that the rest of the team is available and ready for selection ahead of the important fixture.
