Thursday blackout to hit parts of 8 counties

Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions that will affect parts of eight counties on Thursday, May 21, 2026, as the company carries out routine network maintenance.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the electricity distributor said several areas in Nairobi, Makueni, Nyeri, Laikipia, Kilifi, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu and Kakamega counties will experience blackouts for several hours during the day.

In Nairobi County, parts of Karen will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The affected areas include parts of Langata Road, Karen Well Mall, Mokoyet East, Mokoyet West, Stedmak, Nyumba Moja Road, Murishu Road, Mukinduri Road, Forest Edge, Forest Edge Groove, Amara Ridge, Academy Road, Nairobi Academy, Japanese School, Langata North Road, Kuwinda Road, Scripture Mission, Kuwinda Estate, Kufuga Lane, Kufuga Road, Karen Green, Don Bosco Boys, Rubis Energy, Silanga Road, D-Paul, John Keen, African Gospel Church, Liberty Centre and Radix.

In Makueni County, the blackout will run from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm in areas including Mulala Market, Kithumani Market, Muangini Market, Wautu Market, Kyambeke Level Four Hospital, Kwa Kotoe, Mbuthani Market, Masumba, Kwa Matungu, Welfare Market, Gigiri Boys, Matiliku Market, Kalamba Fruit Factory, Kalamba Market, Nziu Market and Kilili Market.

Parts of Nyeri County, including Kiganjo Police College, Chaka Town and nearby markets, will also experience power interruption between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. Kenya Power said the affected areas include Kiganjo Police College, Maisha Millers, Kiganjo Cereals Board, Kenya Cooperative Creameries Kiganjo, Kagumo High School, Kirichu Market, Nyaribo Market, Karunda Market, Maragima Market and Mount Kenya Estate.

In Laikipia County, areas such as Kangaita, Likii, Kalalu and Umande will be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The blackout will also affect Nanyuki Law Courts, Nanyuki Police Station, Lunatic Lane, Milimani, Makutano, Ontulili, Peaks Hotel, Kongoni Hotel, Turaco Farm, Three Rivers School, Everest Farm and nearby customers.

In Kilifi County, parts of Kikambala will be without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. The affected areas include Pwani Oil Water Treatment, Sun N Sand, Fairdeal Park, Komax, Safepack, Revital, Swati Export Processing Zone, Afriwear, Eagoil Petrol Station, Madina, Pride Industries, Maridadi Farm, Shariani Town, Palmridge, Northcoast Beach Hotel and Mtwapa Primary School.

Also in the Coast region, parts of Lungalunga and Vanga in Kwale County will experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting areas such as Manyatta, Alliance Safari and Baobab.

In Mombasa County, areas around Kilima Road, Voice of Kenya, Bombolulu and Bandari will also experience power interruptions between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm. The affected places include Maweni, Kongowea, Ziwa la Ngombe, Bungoni, Sheikh Khalifa, Yasmin Waters, Bombolulu Workshop, Double Laundry, Bandari Quarters, Marionist Catholic Church and Hakika Flats.

In Uasin Gishu County, areas including Ngecheck, Ngeria and Ndubenet will be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Kenya Power said Ngeria Girls, Koros Secondary School, Tegut, Kapngetuny and Belkenya are among the areas expected to experience the outage.

Meanwhile, in Kakamega County, parts of Malava and West Kenya Sugar areas will experience a power interruption from 8.00 am to 4.30 pm. The affected areas include Samitsi, Malanga, Malava Market, Kambi Mwanza Market, Shamberere, West Kenya Sugar, Kambiri Market, Kuvasali and Ileho.
