It was the end of 40 days for a man caught on camera red-handed dumping garbage.

On Monday, January 12, 2026, Geoffrey Mosiria, the Head of the Customer Care Department in Nairobi County, shared a confrontational video on his Facebook account, questioning a man who had been dumping waste in the Githurai area.

In the video, Mosiria can be heard angrily ordering the man to pick up the garbage he had just offloaded, accusing him of polluting an area outside Nairobi County after allegedly ferrying waste from another neighbourhood.

Caught in action

Okota hiyo uchafu ata kama ni Kiambu. We! Unamwaga uchafu hapa? Unafanyia wapi? Sasa unatoa uchafu Nairobi, unakuja kumwaga Kiambu? Hapa ni Kiambu unachafua,” Mosiria said in the video.

The county official went on to instruct officers to restrain the suspect. “Wewe, huyu jamaa awekwe pingu, nimemwona akimwaga,” he said, insisting that the man had been caught in the act.

Mosiria then ordered that the garbage be returned to Nairobi and taken to the right dumping site. “Urudishe uchafu Nairobi, na ipelekwe place inapaswa kwenda,” he added.

He used the confrontation to urge government workers and members of the public to speak out whenever they see environmental offences being committed.

Chenye tunasema ni, wafanyakazi wa serikali, ukiona mtu ananachafua, mtakaze. Huyu jamaa amemwaga uchafu tukiangalia,” Mosiria said.

Zero tolerance

Later, in a follow-up Facebook post, Mosiria described the incident as a clear case of impunity.

“THIS IS IMPUNITY!! This is pure impunity. How do you dump garbage openly and expect us to keep quiet?” he wrote.

He explained that the suspect had allegedly moved waste from Githurai 44 to dump it unlawfully in Githurai 45, a practice he said must come to an end.

“Imagine someone moving from Githurai 44 to dump garbage in Githurai 45 unlawfully. This must stop,” Mosiria stated.

He warned that anyone found engaging in illegal dumping would face strict action.

“Serikali iko na mkono mrefu. Anyone found engaging in illegal dumping will face the full force of the law. Our environment must be protected, and order must be maintained,” Mosiria said.

The incident has sparked renewed debate on waste management and cross-county dumping, with many Kenyans calling for tougher enforcement to protect residential areas from illegal pollution.
