Sudi narrates emotional story of a student he sponsored to join high school
By Charles Ouma, January 28, 2026Kapseret Member of Parliament (MP) Oscar Sudi has explained what moved him to sponsor a bright boy who had dropped out of school in his constituency.
The lawmaker said in a statement on his official social media platforms on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, that he intervened after coming across a story of a bright boy in his constituency who failed to report to Samoei High School.
“I came across John Ndungu’s story on social media, and it hit me hard. This bright boy from Outspan village, Ngeria Ward, Kapseret Subcounty, had missed his chance at Samoei Boys High School,” Sudi stated.

According to the legislator, the boy missed his chance due to the family’s financial situation, with his mother struggling to make ends meet.
Sudi steps in to support
He added that the student’s mother ekes out a living washing clothes and has been struggling to support her family.
“His mum, Mary Wanjiru, was struggling to make ends meet. She’s raising him and his 11-year-old sister with cerebral palsy, washing clothes just to put food on the table. The pain of watching her kids suffer was overwhelming for her,” Sudi added.
The lawmaker said that he has since stepped in to support the bright student join high school to pursue his dreams, noting that although the win is small, it is a significant step.
“I’m grateful I could step in and support John’s education. Now, he’s got a chance to chase his dreams at Samoei High School. It’s a small win, but it’s a start.
Thousands of students failed to join schools across the country in the month of January, with many parents citing financial challenges.
Politicians and well-wishers intervened in a number of cases highlighted in both mainstream and social media, with pressure piling on the government as thousands of children risked dropping out of school.
President Ruto’s directive
In response to the situation, President William Ruto directed that no child should be left at home due to financial constraints, noting that the government has already put in place sufficient resources to support the transition under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.

“I have directed all chiefs to ensure that every child who completed junior school joins senior school. No child should remain at home because of lack of fees, uniform or any other reason,” Ruto said on January 22, 2026.
