Ruto makes fresh announcement on becoming an evangelist after presidency

President William Ruto has announced his plans after finishing his presidential tenure, saying he will serve as a full-time evangelist.
Ruto made the remarks during a service at the PEFA All Nations Gospel Church in Gikomba on Sunday, February 1, 2026, where he revealed a pact he made with the church’s bishop, stating:
“Nikimaliza kazi ya kuwa Rais, mimi nitakuwa Evangelist.”
The president explained that he chose PEFA Church as the place where he will focus his evangelism, noting that he shares similar Pentecostal and Evangelical beliefs with the church.
“Na mimi naona hapo kwa PEFA kwa sababu ni Wapentecoste. Mimi naamini pia ni wa Evangelical, mimi naipenda hapo, ndio. Tutashirikiana pamoja, hivyo nikimaliza hii kazi nitakuja niiungane na huyu Pastor Alfred tuendele kuskuma kazi ya Mungu,” he said, emphasising his desire to partner with the church leadership to actively preach and advance the work of God after completing his presidential duties.
Chaos in churches
Ruto further condemned disorder and the use of excessive force inside places of worship.
Without mentioning names, he warned against politicising church events, emphasising that places of worship should remain sacred despite political differences.
“As Kenyans, we can engage in politics and seek leadership positions, but churches must always remain spaces of respect,” Ruto said amid applause from the congregation.
Ruto added that politics, hatred, or chaos should not enter places of worship, which should instead be centres of peace and devotion, and that everyone must honour their sanctity.

“We must not bring politics, hatred, or chaos into our churches. These should be places of peace and devotion. Everyone, no matter their status, must honour the sanctity of God’s house,” he added
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was among those expected but had to flee through nearby bushes, claiming it was an attempt on his life.
The president further announced that the Gikomba market title deed is being processed to curb speculation and land grabbing.
He explained that the request for the title deed arose after some individuals were allegedly planning to grab the land and were linked to past fire incidents.
Ruto committed to delivering the title deed in collaboration with the county government within the next 90 days.
“The first thing I was asked is to get a title deed for the Gikomba market because some individuals were planning to grab the land and were behind the fire problems. And I have committed that I will deliver the title deed for Gikomba, with the county government, within the next 90 days,” Ruto stated.
