The Kenya Police Service has announced a temporary closure of City Hall Way in Nairobi, affecting motorists travelling between the Parliament Roundabout and the Supreme Court Roundabout.

In a shared post on their X account on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the police said the closure will take place in the early hours of the day to accommodate a Nairobi County Government parade and public event.

According to the police, the temporary shutdown is intended to ensure the safety of participants and the smooth flow of the official parade.

“TRAFFIC UPDATE: City Hall Way Closure Part of City Hall Way, extending from the Parliament Roundabout to Supreme Court roundabout is temporarily closed this morning to accommodate a Nairobi County Government event and parade,” Police stated.

This approach follows the usual protocol the police adopt during major public events, including pre-event announcements, deployment of traffic officers, and coordination with Nairobi County authorities.

City Hall Way, a major artery in central Nairobi, connects key government offices, courts, and commercial centres, making it a high-traffic area during weekdays.

Uhuru Highway closure

The closure comes a day after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced an eight-night closure of a section of Uhuru Highway between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and Westlands Roundabout.

The nighttime shutdown, from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am daily between February 6 and February 13, 2026, is aimed at road repairs and maintenance.

KeNHA urged motorists to follow designated alternative routes and cooperate with traffic marshals, warning that the works could affect night-time logistics, matatus, couriers, and late-shift workers.

Motorists heading Nakuru-bound were advised to use Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Westlands Ring Road, and the Nairobi Expressway, while Mombasa-bound traffic was directed via Parklands Ring Road, Ojijo Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, and University Way.

KeNHA said normal traffic operations would resume once the works are completed on February 13, 2026.

Authorities urged Nairobi residents to plan their journeys early, stay informed via official social media updates, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals to minimise inconvenience during these overlapping closures.
