Orengo addresses health rumours following months of public absence
Siaya Governor James Orengo has dismissed rumours and speculation surrounding his health, explaining that his recent absence from the public eye was due to travel abroad and routine medical check-ups.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, November 29, 2025, Orengo clarified that he was in good health and had visited friends in India and attended to personal matters.
“I am well, but I was in India, in New Delhi, where I spent some time with friends. I then went to Hyderabad, where I also have a number of friends who live there,” he said.
The governor noted that his visit to India was not unusual, as he has previously travelled there for both personal visits and medical check-ups.

He explained that years ago, while visiting Chennai, a friend who resides in Kenya but lives in India encouraged him to explore Hyderabad, describing it as a modern and rapidly developing metropolis.
“A few years ago I had gone to Chennai, and a friend suggested that I should visit Hyderabad to see what is coming up in that particular area,” Orengo said.
Addressing the health rumours directly, Orengo confirmed that while in India, he underwent routine medical examinations, which he said he regularly does in various cities including Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai.
“While there, I went for medical check-ups, which I normally do. I have gone to Chennai, New Delhi and Bombay before, and it was just that,” he explained.

Further, Orengo revealed that he chose not to engage in speculation while he was away, opting instead to return and allow the public to judge his health for themselves.
“I thought instead of answering rumours, I should just present myself so that people can make up their own minds about what my status is,” he said.
