NYS announces 750 job openings across Kenya
By William Muthama, March 3, 2026The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a large-scale recruitment, opening 750 positions across Kenya for cadets and private officers.
In a notice posted on X on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the agency invited qualified Kenyans to apply for professional, technical, and support roles.
“The NYS wishes to recruit qualified Cadet and Private Officers,” NYS stated.
The agency said there are 250 cadet officer vacancies across multiple fields. Available roles include engineering, accounting, auditing, ICT, supply chain, clinical services, laboratory work, and project management, as well as positions in economics, marketing, corporate communications, agriculture, veterinary services, hydrology, chaplaincy, legal services, and community health nursing.
The service also said it is recruiting 500 private officers for technical and support positions. The advertised roles include drivers, plant operators, masons, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, band members, agricultural assistants, secretaries, panel beaters, vehicle mechanics, welders, and general duty personnel.
Eligibility and requirements
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 18–28, with minimum academic qualifications. KCSE grade requirements vary.
Cadets with diploma-level posts need a C-, while Privates require at least a D+. Candidates must be medically fit and prepared to undergo 9 months of NYS paramilitary training.

All applicants must have a valid Kenyan National ID, KRA PIN certificate, a certificate in computer application skills from a recognised institution, no criminal record, and meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
The notice specifies that these requirements apply to both Cadets and Privates where relevant, ensuring that only qualified and eligible candidates are considered.
How to apply
Applicants are required to download and fill out the PSC.2 Application for Employment Form (Revised 2016) from the Public Service Commission website.
Forms can be submitted by email or by post to the NYS Commandant General at the National Youth Service Headquarters, Nairobi.
The deadline for submission is March 18, 2026, and all applications must indicate the relevant position title.
The NYS recruitment offers permanent and pensionable employment, medical cover under the SHA Scheme, and allowances according to the NYS salary scale.
