Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has suggested that men who kneel while proposing for marriage should face arrest.

In a statement on Saturday, February 14, 2026, Muhoozi criticised the tradition of kneeling to ask for a woman’s hand in marriage, dismissing it as unnecessary and foreign.

“And this Kizungu nonsense of kneeling down to a woman to ask her to marry you… that’s rubbish. We shall start arresting men who do that!” he wrote.

“If you are a Ugandan and kneel down for a woman for anything, you are going to jail. You can survive if you say you are Congolese or Nigerian or something,” he added.

This comes a few months after Muhoozi left tongues wagging after declaring his admiration for global superstar Beyoncé while jokingly challenging her husband, Jay-Z.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) boldly declared that Jay-Z could do whatever he wanted to him, but he was taking Beyoncé.

“Jay-Z can do whatever he wants to me, but I’m taking Beyoncé!” he said.

He did not stop there, further stirring controversy by challenging Jay-Z to a duel at dawn, with the stipulation that if he won, he would take Beyoncé.

“I challenge Jay-Z to a duel at dawn. If I win, I take Beyoncé,” Muhoozi said.

Muhoozi also expressed his frustration, saying that Jay-Z had disturbed him enough.

“This guy has disturbed me enough!” he added.

This was not the first time he publicly declared his love for Beyoncé; on Saturday, December 28, 2024, he said that he was ready to pay a dowry in order to settle with the American singer.

“But how long will I wait for Beyoncé? Does she know how many cows I have?” Kainerugaba stated.
