Nairobi County Government’s Citizen Engagement and Customer Care boss, Geoffrey Mosiria, has shared an update on the condition of a young boy he recently rescued from the streets of Nairobi.

In a statement shared via his X account on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Mosiria said he met the grandmother of Jose, a child from a street family he rescued last week. The elderly woman was accompanied by Jose’s younger brother, now one year old, whom she had rescued from the streets when he was just two months old.

Mosiria revealed that the grandmother requested to see Jose but tearfully explained that she is currently unable to take him in due to her limited ability to care for another child. Despite her situation, she expressed deep gratitude for Jose’s rescue, noting that he had been suffering and exposed to danger while living on the streets.

“Today, I met the grandmother of Jose, the child from a street family I recently rescued from the streets of Nairobi. She requested to see Jose, but with deep pain, she explained that she is currently unable to take him in due to her limited capacity to care for another child,” Mosiria said.

He added that the grandmother’s appreciation was a reminder of how fragile the lives of street children are and the importance of timely intervention. Mosiria assured the public that Jose is now safe and receiving proper care.

“Her gratitude was a reminder of how fragile these situations are and how important timely intervention can be,” he stated.

“I want to reassure everyone that Jose is now in safe hands, receiving the care, protection, and support he deserves,” he said, adding that every street child has a story marked by struggle and hope.

Jose was rescued on Friday, January 9, 2026, in Nairobi’s Central Business District, where he was found wandering alone without any adult supervision. According to Mosiria, the child’s mother was also living on the streets and claimed that her husband was in jail, saying she needed Ksh100,000 to secure his release on bail.

Following the rescue, Mosiria immediately took the child into safe custody and arranged for support as efforts continue to stabilise the family and address their situation.

The county official emphasised that children living on the streets are victims of circumstance and not by choice. He called on Kenyans to work together to protect vulnerable children and remove them from unsafe environments.

“I took it upon myself to take these children to safe custody, because it is not their wish to be on the streets. I also call upon Kenyans, let’s join hands and get these kids off the streets. It is not safe for them,” Mosiria said.
