Mosiria issues update on mother battling drug addiction and Pneumonia rescued at City Hall

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has issued an encouraging update on a mother who was rescued from the streets outside City Hall while battling drug addiction and pneumonia.

In a statement on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Mosiria recounted that the woman, identified as Martha Njoki, was found about four months ago sleeping outside City Hall, abandoned and visibly unwell.

“When I approached her, she became fearful and broke down in tears, thinking I had come to chase her away or have her arrested. I assured her not to worry, that I was only there to understand her situation and see how I could help,” he revealed.

According to Mosiria, Martha was seriously ill with pneumonia, struggling with drug addiction, and emotionally broken.

Further, he revealed that Martha’s children had previously been taken in by a well-wisher believed to live in either Githurai or Mwihoko, although due to her condition at the time, she could not clearly remember the exact location.

The transformation

In his update, Mosiria shared that Martha has since made remarkable progress and is currently in the final stages of treatment at a rehabilitation centre and is awaiting discharge.

“Today, I am grateful to report that she has recovered and is almost being discharged. Before she leaves the facility, we would like to reunite her with her children. We hope that once we reach Githurai, her memory will guide her to the exact place where they are.

Describing the transformation as deeply moving, Mosiria credited the progress to faith and collective compassion rather than personal effort.

“This is not my doing. It is God’s work. God is simply using me, in line with the covenant I made with Him when He entrusted me with this responsibility.”

He said he shared Martha’s story publicly to encourage Kenyans to extend kindness and practical support to people living on the streets, noting that many can recover if given care, dignity, and hope.

Mosiria emphasised that every life matters, urging the public not to turn away from those struggling with homelessness, addiction, or illness.

“With compassion, hope can always be restored. If you want to support her or visit her, call the rehabilitation centre 0706 734 928. It’s located at Kahawa Sukari,” he added.
