Monday weather: Sunshine and light showers expected across several Kenyan regions
The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast a mix of sunny intervals and light showers across the country on Monday, January 26, 2026.
According to its daily forecast, residents in the western highlands, Rift Valley, and Lake Victoria Basinincluding counties such as Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Nakuru, and Eldoret, can expect mainly sunny intervals, with a chance of light afternoon showers in highland areas.
Western Highlands and Rift Valley
In the western highlands and the Rift Valley, residents can enjoy a pleasant mix of sunshine and cloud cover. While mornings are expected to be partly cloudy, sunny intervals will dominate in the afternoon.
Light showers are possible over high-altitude areas, particularly near Mount Elgon and parts of Kericho and Nandi counties.
Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 28–33°C in most towns, while cooler areas like Eldoret and Kericho may see lows of 8–11°C.
Nairobi and surrounding counties
Residents of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, and Murang’a should prepare for partly cloudy conditions overnight, with sunny intervals during the day.
Occasional light showers may occur in highland areas.

Maximum temperatures in Nairobi are expected to reach around 29°C, with nighttime lows of 13°C.
Northeastern regions
Northern and northeastern counties, including Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir, will enjoy mostly sunny conditions throughout the day.
However, strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected in parts of Turkana and Marsabit, prompting residents to secure loose items and exercise caution when outdoors.
The southeastern lowlands and coastal countiesincluding Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, Mombasa, Kwale, Malindi, and Lamu, will experience mainly sunny intervals.
Light showers may occur in highland areas, particularly near Mount Kilimanjaro. Coastal towns are expected to see maximum temperatures of 32–34°C, with relatively humid conditions during the day.
The Meteorological Department advises residents to plan outdoor activities carefully, especially in regions prone to afternoon showers or strong winds.
Sunrise times range from 06:24 to 06:49 across the country, with sunsets between 18:42 and 18:57.
