Meru School, Ikuu Boys and other Eastern region schools with KCSE 2025 mean above 9

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Friday, January 9, 2026, released the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results at AIC Chebisaas High School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
The announcement came after a briefing to President William Ruto at Eldoret State Lodge in Uasin Gishu County, where the overall national performance figures were presented.
In total, 993,000 candidates sat the 2025 KCSE examinations. Of these, 270,000 attained grade C+ and above, securing direct entry to university, up from 246,391 in 2024. A total of 1,932 candidates achieved the top grade of A, marking an increase from 1,693 in the previous year.
Candidates were assessed across a range of subjects between October 21 and November 14, 2025.
In the Eastern region, several schools posted mean scores above 9, with noteworthy university transition rates and strong grade distributions. Below is a detailed look at those institutions and their 2025 KCSE performance.
Meru School — Mean Score 9.9743
Meru School, a national boys’ boarding school located along the Meru‑Maua Road in Imenti North, Meru County, posted the highest mean score among Eastern region schools.

The school registered 69 A grades, 136 A‑, 153 B+, 117 B, 49 B‑ and 13 C+ grades. Meru School routinely ranks among Kenya’s top national schools and offers a broad curriculum alongside extracurricular programmes.
Ikuu Boys High School — Mean Score 9.181
Ikuu Boys High School, another national boys’ boarding school located in the Ikuu area of Tharaka‑Nithi County, recorded a mean score of 9.181.
The school’s candidates achieved seven A grades, 37 A‑, 93 B+, 83 B, 64 B‑ and 26 C+ grades. Ikuu Boys is listed among the national level senior schools in Eastern Kenya and continues to perform strongly in national examinations.
St Mary’s Girls High School, Igoji — Mean Score 9.123
St Mary’s Girls High School (also referred to as St Mary’s Girls Senior School Igoji), a national girls’ boarding school in Igoji town, Meru County, achieved a mean score of 9.123.

The school recorded eight A grades, 71 A‑, 109 B+, 115 B, 89 B‑ and 40 C+ grades. Its university transition rate was 94.945%, up from 93.61% in 2024. St Mary’s Girls Igoji has a long history and continues to be a prominent girls’ secondary school in the Eastern region.
Maryhill Girls — Mean Score 9.9008
Maryhill Girls reported a total KCSE mean score of 9.9008.
Out of 665 candidates, 64 scored A, 179 scored A‑ and 191 scored B+. Only five candidates scored below a C‑, indicating broad academic strength. (This school is a national girls’ secondary institution known locally for strong academic outcomes.)
St Anne Muthale Girls High School — Mean Score 8.83
ST Anne Muthale Girls High School recorded a mean score of 8.83 in KCSE 2025.
The school’s performance included nine A grades, 27 A‑, 75 B+, 110 B, 87 B‑, 35 C+, 10 C, six C‑ and one D+, with 95.3% of candidates qualifying for university entry. A
Although below a mean of 9, the results indicate stable performance relative to past years.
Kangaru Boys High School — Mean Score 7.10
Kangaru Boys High School posted a mean score of 7.10, with three A grades, 16 A‑, 35 B+, 42 B, 65 B‑, 72 C+ and 56 C grades.
The school remains a key senior secondary institution in the Eastern region, contributing to the broader educational landscape despite a mean below 9.
