Kisii ‘Virgin Mary’ mystery: Homeowner explains whole situation behind kitchen wall image
By William Muthama, September 6, 2026A mysterious image said to resemble the Virgin Mary on a kitchen wall in Kisii has sparked massive crowds, sending the area into a frenzy as curious residents and worshippers continue to flock to the home.
The image, believed by some visitors to be the Virgin Mary, has drawn hundreds of people to a homestead in Bobasi, with some claiming they can clearly see the face of the mother of Jesus, while others say they cannot see anything.
The unusual scene has attracted residents from neighbouring areas, with word spreading rapidly and large crowds gathering at the home.
Homeowner speaks
In an interview on Sunday, September 6, 2026, homeowner Charles Onsombi spoke about the mysterious image and explained how the incident began.
According to Onsombi, his wife was the first person to notice what appeared to be the image on the kitchen wall.
However, the homeowner says what he sees at the house is not the same as what has been captured and shared online.

“When people started coming, taking photos and whatever, what I can see on the internet is not exactly what’s here,” Onsombi said.
Onsombi added that he has not had a clear opportunity to examine the image himself because of the large crowds that have continued to gather at his compound.
His account comes as visitors remain divided over what they see on the kitchen wall, with some insisting that the image of the Virgin Mary is clearly visible.
Residents divided
Those visiting the home have offered different accounts of what they see on the wall.
Some residents and worshippers insist that the image is clearly visible, while others who have stood before the wall say they cannot see any unusual figure.
For some visitors, the ability to see the image is a matter of faith.

One visitor claimed that people with faith could see the image and questioned why authorities were restricting access to the site.
“This is the mother of Jesus who has come here,” the visitor said, while urging more people to be allowed to view the wall.
The visitor further argued that those unable to see the image may simply lack faith.
Calls for a church
The growing interest in the site has also prompted some visitors to call for a church to be built at the location.
They believe the reported occurrence carries spiritual significance and want the place preserved as a site where people can gather for prayer.
However, the growing crowds have presented a challenge for the homeowner and authorities, with police stepping in to manage the situation.
