Kenya Red Cross confirms all victims accounted for after building collapsed in Shauri Moyo
The Kenya Red Cross Society has confirmed that all individuals involved in the building collapse in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, have been accounted for after hours of search-and-rescue operations.
In a final update issued after the incident, on Monday, March 16, 2026, the humanitarian organisation said rescue teams had concluded their operations after verifying the status of everyone believed to have been inside the building when it collapsed.
“Search and rescue operations have been concluded after all individuals involved in the incident were accounted for,” read the update.
The incident occurred in the Blue Estate area of Shauri Moyo, where a building suddenly collapsed near structures that were reportedly being demolished on riparian land.
Initial reports indicated that around 10 people were inside the building at the time of the collapse.

According to the Kenya Red Cross, two individuals managed to escape from the building by jumping out shortly before it fully collapsed.
“Two people have been rescued and taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for medical attention. Six people remain unaccounted for. First aid has been provided at the scene by the Kenya Red Cross as search and rescue efforts continue,” Kenya Red Cross stated.
After several hours of intense efforts, the Kenya Red Cross confirmed that all individuals believed to have been involved in the incident had been accounted for.
OTC Building Collapse
This comes a few weeks after a building collapsed near the OTC area along Kirinyaga Road in Nairobi County.
The Kenya Red Cross confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, 2026. Following the report, the organisation reported that emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene to begin rescue and assessment efforts.
The cause of the collapse has not been established, and it is unclear whether anyone had been trapped or injured.
“A building collapse has been reported near OTC along Kirinyaga Road, Nairobi County. Response teams are en route. More updates to follow,” Kenya Red Cross reported.
