Kenya Power lists some areas set to face blackout on Monday, July 27

Kenya Power has alerted residents in parts of the Mount Kenya region to prepare for temporary electricity disruptions on Monday, July 27, 2026. The power provider shared the notice across its social media channels to help affected communities plan ahead.

Posting on X, the utility firm explained that the temporary shutdown is necessary for routine system updates, stating, “The interruption is part of network maintenance.”

Management also apologised for any disruption to daily activities, noting, “We regret any inconvenience that may occur during the operations.”

Outages in Nyeri and Embu counties

In Nyeri County, electricity will be switched off from 9.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. across two main zones. The first section includes Kamakwa and Kamuyu.

Specific places on the list include upper parts of Ring Road, Baraka Estate, Kamakwa Market, Kamakwa Water Works, Muga Academy, Nyewasco offices in Kamakwa, Kamuyu Coffee Factory, Nyawira Estate, Kanoga, Gitathini, St. Xavier Academy, Mwonjoria, White House, Kandara Market, Mt. Kenya Salvation, PPOS Residence, and surrounding premises.

The second affected section in Nyeri covers Kiawaiguru TBC and Kariki TBC. Customers in Muthuthi-ini TBC, Kiawaiguru TBC, Mutito TBC, Thangathi TBC, Gitema-ini TBC, Chehe Primary School, Kariki TBC, Kariki Catholic Church, Safaricom boosters, Airtel boosters, and nearby areas will also face power cuts during the same timeframe.

In Embu County, maintenance operations will start earlier in the day. Outages in Kigumo and Kathunguri will run from 8.30 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. Affected locations include Kegonge Secondary School, Kariru Secondary School, Gwa Kanjo, Mukuria Secondary School, Ngiori, Gataumwa, Kathugu Coffee Factory, Ngurukiri, and adjacent customers.

Kirinyaga schedule and affected locations

In Kirinyaga County, the power cut is scheduled between 9.00 A.M. and 5.00 P.M. The maintenance exercise will cover Kavote, Kabare Girls, and Ithareini.

Residents and businesses around Bekam Hotel, Kimunye Tea Factory, Kavote, Mutige Boys, Ithareini Market, Gatunguru Primary School, Kabare Girls, Kiangwenyi, and neighbouring areas are advised to prepare for the interruption.

Kenya Power has asked all impacted customers in these regions to make necessary arrangements before the scheduled maintenance begins.
