Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Sunday, June 21

Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions in parts of Kisii and Nyeri counties on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

The utility company said the outage is part of scheduled network maintenance aimed at improving service delivery in the affected areas.

According to a post on Saturday, June 20, 2026, on X, the planned maintenance will take place between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Customers in the listed locations have been advised to prepare for temporary power interruptions during the exercise.

Kenya Power stated, “Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (21st June 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance. We regret any inconvenience that may occur during the operations.”

The company has always explained that the maintenance works are necessary to support the electricity distribution network. Such scheduled interruptions are usually carried out to allow technical teams to work safely on power lines and related infrastructure.

Kisii County

In Kisii County, the outage will affect parts of Kisii Town within the South Nyanza region. Areas expected to be affected include Nyanchwa Police, Christamarian Hospital, Show Ground, Quickmart Supermarket, Naivas Supermarket, Medifort Hospital, Oasis Hospital, KMTC, Treasury, NTSA and adjacent customers. The interruption is scheduled to run from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Nyeri County

In Nyeri County, the outage will affect customers in the Total Muhoya and Central Hotel area within the Mt. Kenya region. The blackout will also affect customers around Brad Gate, ACK Boden Powel, Silver Dice, Club Zero 19, Central Hotel, Kona Hauthi, Consolidated Bank, KWFT, Lions Optical, Chicken World and adjacent customers. The interruption is also expected to last from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

Residents, businesses and institutions operating within the affected areas have been advised to make the necessary arrangements ahead of the planned maintenance. Electricity supply is expected to return once the scheduled works are completed on Sunday evening.

Areas that experienced a scheduled power outage in several parts of the country on Thursday, June 18, 2026, to allow for network maintenance included Nairobi County, where parts of Spring Valley, including Kihara Road, Ngecha Road and nearby customers, were without electricity from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
