Kenya Power lists areas to be affected by blackout on Wednesday, May 27
By Paulette Mboga, May 26, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions that will affect several areas across Nairobi, Nandi, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, and Kisii counties on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the utility firm explained that the scheduled blackout is part of maintenance works in different regions. Residents and businesses in the affected areas are expected to experience hours without electricity during the day.
Nairobi County
In Nairobi County, the outage will affect parts of Loresho between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. Areas listed include Thego Lane, Karibu Inn, Kaptagat Road, Loresho Ridge, Kaumoni, Loresho Gardens, Coopers, KARLO, Lions, Loresho Ridge Estate, Shinyalu Road, Shinyalu Close, Mukabi Groove, Mukabi Lane, Shamba Cafe, Mandela Hostels and nearby customers.
The utility company also announced another interruption in parts of Kyuna during the same hours. Areas expected to be affected include Kyuna Road, Kibagare Way, Loresho Ridge, Loresho Crescent, Loresho Groove, Loresho Lane, Thego Lane, Kyuna Crescent and nearby customers. Parts of Westlands, including Brookside Drive, Grevillea Grove, School Lane, Muguga Green and Brookside Gardens, will also be affected.
Nairobi was among the areas that experienced a power outage on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Nandi County
In Nandi County, the outage will affect the Arwos area from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. Kenya Power listed Cheribisi, Arwos Centre, and St. Roberts Arwos among the places expected to experience the interruption. Nearby customers in the region will also be affected during the maintenance period.
Kisii County
In Kisii County, areas under Nyakoiba and Ibencho will experience a power interruption from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The affected places include Nyakoiba, Ibencho, Nyansara, Openda, Eburi, Nyamasege, Kiagware, Nyaimera, Nyansakia, Ekona and Yonduko. Adjacent customers were also included in the notice issued by the company.
Nyeri County
Nyeri County will also face planned outages in the Gathumbi and Mawasco areas during the same period. Places listed include Gathumbi, Mathare, Ragati Primary School, Ragati Secondary School, Mathira Water and Sanitation Company, part of Unjiru, Safaricom boosters and Airtel boosters. Nearby customers are also expected to be affected.
Tharaka Nithi County
In Tharaka Nithi County, the blackout will affect Kaguntu, Kaanwa Market, Chuka Vocational Technical, Mwanjate Market, Mbwiro, Kajuki Market and Njaina from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Meru County areas, including Mikinduri Market, Mikinduri Girls, Githu, Kiguchwa Market, Irindiro, Ankamia, Amungaa and Ametho Boarding will also experience the scheduled outage.
