Kenya Power announces blackouts in parts of 5 counties on Wednesday, December 10

Kenya Power has issued a notice to customers warning of scheduled power outages in at least five counties across the country on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

According to Kenya Power, the outages are part of routine maintenance works aimed at ensuring a more reliable electricity supply to both residential and commercial customers.

Western region

In the Western region, affected areas include parts of Kakamega, which include the Shinyalu area, which includes Virembe Market, Rodho Hotel, Chhirovani, Maluna Primary, Mukhuru, Ileho, and adjacent customers.

Customers in Shinyalu areas and surrounding industrial areas should also anticipate a full day of service disruption from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

South Nyanza region

Parts of South Nyanza, which includes at least three counties, are also expected to witness an almost full day of blackout.

The counties are Migori, Nyamira, and Homabay.

In Nyamira County, the Wednesday blackout is expected to hit Keroka Hospital, Keroka Shell, Keroka Police, Regional Petrol, Shivling, Shivshakto, and Wisdom Plaza.

The outage will last from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Kenya Power also urges that adjacent customers living within the listed areas should brace themselves for the outage.

In Homa Bay County, areas such as Homa Bay town, Olare, Nyangweso, Samanga Center, Kadel, Homa Hills, Imbo, Rangwe, and Asumbi will be affected by the outage.

The utility company has further warned that all adjacent customers within the listed areas will also be affected by the outage.

Likewise, in Migori County customers around the Uriria area, which includes Lwala, Merry Orphanage, Uriri, Ramuoma, Pe-Hill, Mariwa, Mulo, Malunga, Oyani Masai, and the Ulanda area, will be affected from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

In addition, customers from Rabuor, Onyalo Biro, Ogwedhi, Sagegi, and adjacent customers will also be affected by the day-long outage.

Mt Kenya region

Kenya Power has announced that Murang’a County will be the only region with Mount Kenya that is expected to experience the outage.

The areas in Murang’a include the Karugia and Kiawanduma areas, which will experience outages from 9:00 am up to 5:00 pm.

Kenya Power has urged customers to prepare for the interruptions by ensuring backup power where possible and to avoid using high-powered electrical appliances during the outage periods
