Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 5 counties on Friday, July 17
By William Muthama, July 16, 2026Kenya Power has announced planned power interruptions in parts of Kisumu, Nyeri, Meru, Embu and Kiambu counties on Friday, July 17, 2026, as the utility company undertakes maintenance works on its electricity distribution network.
In a notice issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026, ahead of the scheduled exercise, Kenya Power said the planned outages are part of routine maintenance aimed at improving the reliability and stability of electricity supply in the affected areas.
According to the utility company, customers in the listed regions should expect power interruptions for several hours, with outage times varying depending on the location.
“Good Evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (17th July 2026). ^WN” Kenya Power said in its notice.
Nyeri, Meru and Embu Counties
In Nyeri County, electricity supply will be interrupted from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in areas around Muruguru, Marua and FK Resort.
The affected locations include Rukandu, Kiamuiru, Githiro, Satima Flour Mills, Mugwathi, Jubilant Nest Hotel, Vet Pro Ltd, Gachihi, Ngibuiini, Mahugu, parts of Kahiga, Gikunju Maternity, Kwa George and neighbouring customers.
In Meru County, customers in Gakurine, Kithoka and Chugu will be without electricity from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The blackout will affect Gakurune, Kiandiu, Chungu, Kwiriro Market, Runongone Airtel, Kaithe Market, Kithoka, Freds Academy, Thiiri Cultural Centre, Bishop Lawi Imathiu Primary and Secondary Schools, Kithoka Ripples and adjacent customers.
Meanwhile, in Embu County, the outage will run from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in Karurumo Market and Kanyuambora Market.
Areas set to be affected include Karurumo Health Centre, Runyenjes Technical, J.B. Muturi, Kamumu Market, Karigiri Primary School, Kianthambu Primary School, Kathagutari Primary School, Kavengero Market, Ngunyumu Market, Kanyangi Market, Cianthia Secondary School, Gwakaithi Primary School, Iriri Primary School and surrounding customers.
Kiambu and Kisumu Counties
In Kiambu County, customers in Sigona, Zambezi and Mugumoini will experience a planned power interruption from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The outage will affect Sigona, Zambezi, Nderi, KARI Muguga, KETRI, Mugumoini, Kamangu, Kamangu Shopping Centre, Runana and adjacent customers.

In Kisumu County, customers in Masaba Market and Bohorera will experience a power outage from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
The interruption will affect Masaba Market, Masaba Primary School, Masaba Village, Bohorera and adjacent customers.
