Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 2 counties on Monday, January 12

Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity maintenance that will affect parts of Kericho and Nyeri counties on Monday, January 12, 2026.

The utility company issued the notice on Sunday evening, January 11, 2025, on X, urging residents and businesses to prepare for temporary power interruptions.

Kericho areas affected

In the Central Rift region, parts of Kericho County will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Areas listed include Litein Town, Kapkatet Town, Ngoina Road Market, Kalya Academy, Getarwet Secondary School, Chellilis Girls, and Chesingoro.

Others are Litein Factory, Kapkatet Factory, Cheborge Market, Tebesonik Factory, Chelanget Market, Cheborge Boys and Girls Schools, Kericho NTTI, Kapkatet, Kabianga KMTC, and surrounding customers.

Residents and businesses in these areas are advised to plan for the blackout to avoid disruptions to daily activities.

Nyeri County outages

In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County will face power interruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected areas include Mung’aria, Gititu, Ithekahuno, Ihiigaini, Kaigonde, Kangubiri Girls, parts of Muthinga, Karo, Nyaithe, Kiaraho, and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power advised that customers in these areas plan accordingly to avoid inconvenience during the maintenance period.

The utility company stated that planned maintenance exercises are critical for ensuring a reliable electricity supply and minimising unexpected power interruptions.

These activities are carried out to inspect, service, and upgrade electrical infrastructure, which includes transformers, distribution lines, and other essential components of the electricity network.

Customers are encouraged to check the Kenya Power website for detailed schedules and updates on power restoration.

“Good Evening, the following areas will be on a planned power maintenance tomorrow (12.01.2026),” Kenya Power stated, thanking the public for their understanding and cooperation.
